I’m noticing this collective trend surrounding content creators where everyone is speaking of feeling burnt out in some way, shape, or form & I feel it’s because the pressure to perform is catching up to everyone.
A lot of ppl now rely on likes, reposts, & ad campaigns to pay their bills so they have to keep going even in a burnt out state because that’s now their main source of income.
Everyone wanted to ditch their day jobs for the content creator life but what’s really the difference between working a 9-5 for the man & content creating damn near 24/7 with a [man]ager?
Notice how the man is still involved.
I’m not knocking how ppl make their money but honestly speaking, I’m glad I’ve never fallen victim to solely living my life out online for everyone to see or pick apart.
Participating in the viral “trends” & creating content have always felt so performative to me.
Some may say my brand would be better off if I partook in the viral “trends” but as a business owner – I run my business, I don’t let it run me.
As a millennial, I’ve been on the internet for a while now & I’ve shared plenty but never at the costs of me!
From my writing, to the frameworks I’ve created, to the clothes I’ve made & sold out of, to the guidance I’ve provided, you can’t put a price on my versatility.
I will say since I’ve entered my educator era, this has by far been my most creative endeavor yet.
Working with children will push & expand your ideas in unimaginable ways & for it I’m grateful because it’s been the most fulfilling experience thus far.
I say all this to say, don’t chase the views & end up losing your voice.
This paradox of popularity has many lost in the algorithm & the price of these trends is chasing shadows.
Step off the [trend]mill.
Starve the machine & feed your originality.
